A History

I wanted to post the last couple projects I've worked on, because other than a secret page on Facebook they aren't documented anywhere. So the last two quilt tops I recently finished were for my niece and nephew, who are 5 and 8 respectively. I mentioned both quilts in a previous post, but I never actually posted pics of the finished tops. For my niece, I made a princess quilt with all the Disney princesses using paper piecing patterns provided for free from the very wonderful Michelle Thompson at misha29.com. She's sort of the one who inspired me to make my Inside Out characters, so I'm pretty grateful to her :) Here's the princess quilt, which I nicknamed Operation: Pretty Princess:

I'm really worried she's going to drown in it, because not only is it really big, but also I'm putting Minky on the back AND batting in the middle D: Oh well, I guess >.<

Also check out Freshly Pieced and Sew Fresh Quilts, where I posted this quilt as part of a couple linky parties! They've both got a bunch of other links featuring different people's WIPs, in case you need inspiration to finish your own ;)

I also made this pillow to go with it. Jasmine (my niece, named after the princess, coincidentally) is a HUGE Elsa fan. However, because I'm so literal, I couldn't talk myself into adding Elsa to the actual quilt because she's technically a queen. I figured making a pillow was a win-win, because then she can give Elsa more love, and enjoy all the other princesses on the quilt at the same time!

Next, I made this Typosaurus quilt for my nephew, Camden. He's super into dinosaurs, obviously =P This one turned out really big as well, but he's a little older so I'm not QUITE as worried about it. No extra frills made for him yet (pillowcases or pillows), but here's his quilt:

The pattern for this one was purchased from Carolina Patchworks here. I appliqued all the dinosaurs on with Steam a Seam 2, and I didn't worry about sewing them down. I got a progress update from my quilter (Coleen at The Quilted Thistle) a few days back, and I think the quilting is dense enough that I don't need to put in extra effort to get the dinosaurs sewn down.

And for my current projects, I'm working on my very first all-Minky quilt for a very special baby girl (who hasn't been born yet)! The top is pretty much done, I just have to quilt it. Pics to come.

Also, I'm working on the Mario Quilt of Doom for another member in my family, and I finally started it a few days ago! Here's the first section of the first block I started, the first pic taken before I sewed the blocks together, the second taken after:

There's two more quilts on my to-do list for this year (including the Mario quilt), and I'm starting to worry I'm not going to get them done by Christmas D: I know I'll get the tops done, obviously, but I'm already running out of time to quilt them. Worst-case scenario, they'll go to their recipients for their birthdays or Christmas next year, but I really wanted to give 4 out for Christmas this year. That's been my plan since LAST year, actually.

How about you? Any Christmas presents you're starting to stress about already?

    1. Thank you! :) I definitely had a lot of fun making them, and both of them took me out of my comfort zone. Paper piecing is definitely my favorite, and the princess quilt is the one that helped me figure that out

  4. Hi Aubrey!
Thanks for sharing words of wisdom from Shel with me. Very apt. I wanted to email you personally, but you are a "no reply" blogger, so I hunted you down through Google+ instead!
If you want, you can easily change your blogspot settings to make your email "visible" - it doesn't actually "show" anywhere, but it becomes possible for people to reply to your comments. :-)

Oh, gosh...your dino quilt is fabulous! I wish I had an excuse to make one, too. Thanks for including the pattern source in your post. This one is going on my list, for sure! Your princess quilt is super, too.

    1. Oh no, I didn't realize I was one of "those" people, thank you Carole! I've definitely heard people complain about no reply bloggers, and I didn't realize I was one of them D: I shall change that as soon as I get home! Thank you so much for taking the time to tell me, I really do appreciate it. And I'm glad you liked the poem! :)
